Functions
Audemars Piguet
Audemars Piguet was founded in 1875. 23-year-old Jules-Louis Odemar, together with 21-year-old Edward-August Piguet, decided to start their own business in the small Swiss village of La Vallee de Joux. The company was named Audemars, Piguet et Cie. Jules-Louis Audemard invested 18 sophisticated watch movements of his own making into production, while Edward-Augus Piguet invested 10,000 Swiss francs in the company's authorized capital. By agreement of the parties, Jules-Louis Odemar became technical, and Edward Piguet became the company's financial directors. This distribution of powers between the representatives of the two surnames remains to this day.
The trademark "Audemars Piguet" was registered in 1882. In the first year of its existence, the company created the Grand Complication watch, among its many functions were minute repeater, perpetual calendar, moon phase calendar, two-hand chronograph. In 1889, the company opened its first branch in Geneva. In the same year, the popularity of Audemars Piguet watches increased after the triumph of luxury watches presented at the World Exhibition in Paris. In 1907, the company expanded and a new factory was built, where seventy people subsequently worked. In 1911, the first multifunctional wrist watches, decorated with precious stones, were released. During the First World War, the company faced various difficulties, but already in 1925, the company regained its lost positions, creating the thinnest pocket watch with a thickness of 1.32 mm, launching the first women's jewelry watches of the brand and starting the production of embedded chronographs. With the beginning of the Second World War, a decline in production occurs again. In 1949, Audemars Piguet watches for the first time take part in an exhibition in Basel. From 1962 to 1987, the company was led by George Golay. The company's products soon gained international recognition, and in 1967 a new record was set - the thinnest self-winding watch movement 2.45 mm thick with a 21-carat gold rotor was produced. In the same years, Royal Oak watches were created, the first professional sports watches made of steel, which are still the flagship of the company's model range. This model was designed by Gerald Gente, who later separated from the company and established his watchmaking business under the Gerald Genta brand. In 1992, a new watch model was introduced - “Triple Complication”.
In 2014, the Audemars Piguet brand was estimated at 728 million Swiss francs, which put it in tenth place in the ranking of brands of manufacturers of Swiss watches.
The company's headquarters is located in the Swiss town of Le Brassus.
