Chopard
The company was founded by a 24-year-old Louis-Ulysses Shopopar (Fr. Louis-Ulysse Chopard) in 1860 in the town of Sonviye in the Jurassic Mountains of Switzerland. At first, Chopard concentrated on producing accurate pocket watches and chronometers, using various innovative ideas. The quality of chronometers soon allowed Schopar to become the main supplier of watches for the Swiss railways. The quality of the first L.U.C. pocket watches, named after Louis-Ulysses Shopard, in 1912 was highly appreciated by the last Russian emperor Nicholas II.
In 1920, the company moved to Geneva. By the early 1960s, Paul-André Chopard, the last watchmaker who bore a famous name, was selling the company - his sons did not want to continue the family tradition. In 1963, the company is acquired by the owner of the German company Eszeha, Karl Scheufel, the third representative of the dynasty of jewelers and watchmakers. Paul-Andre Chopard works in the company until his death in 1968.
Karl Scheufel decided to maintain the quality standards and traditions that distinguished Chopard products. The company is consolidating, - since the company’s purchase, the number of people working for Chopard has increased from 12 to 720.
In 1975, the company moved from the center of Geneva to Meirin-Geneva, and in 1986, Chopard opened a boutique in Geneva. In 1996, Chopard builds a factory in the Jurassic Mountains, in the town of Fleurier. Karl Friedrich Scheufel sought to organize the independent production of every single piece of watches.
In 1996, a new model was created, the mechanism for which was completely developed and manufactured in the Chopard workshops. Model "L.U.C. 1860 ”passed the strictest tests that are necessary for the watch to be honored with the famous“ Geneva stigma ”confirming the authenticity of the product by the Geneva watch company. In 1997, the men's watch “L.U.C. 1860 "won the prestigious award" Watch of the Year. " This award is awarded to a special jury consisting of retailers for watches and journalists who cover watch topics.
At Baselworld 1999, the corporation pleases its fans with the new L.U.C Sport 2000. Sporty design, leather or rubber strap. The case is made of steel or gold, is waterproof. Inside the watch there is a L.U.C 4.96 mechanism, the distinctive feature of which is the second hands in the center and two winding drums.
In 2000, the brand once again pleases its fans with a novelty. This is L.U.C Quattro, this time there are already four drums in the clock, which allows you to use the clock for nine days without a factory. This model has a COSC certificate. Watches are designed for men, they are waterproof, they display the current date. The back of the watch is made of transparent sapphire, which makes it possible to observe the operation of the mechanism.
Today, Chopard is a unique combination of the world of jewelry and watches with a rich history. The corporation always adheres to four main principles: skill, preservation of traditions, desire for innovation and participation in charity.
